combined playtime uses a complex multi-action set configuration for left touch pad. When you pass the center of the touch pad, it acts like an analog stick. When you press the edge of the touch pad and click, it acts like a d-pad. If you let go of click, it stops responding until you either click again, let go of the left touchpad, or pass over the center of the touchpad again. This lets you rock your thumb like it was a normal d-pad/analog stick.
